Our yard

Now that it is winter and we are hibernating in our house I thought I would post about the yard work we did this last year. The owners of the house did an amazing job at landscaping but my husband Dave wanted to make the yard our own so we ripped up everything the previous owners had planted :(. I was sad to waste all of those flowers, luckily one of my co-workers wanted the iris's. She planted them in her garden and named them after Marcus.

The backyard fence

So we removed this fence/vine thing the owner had put up in the middle of the yard. It blocked off the entire yard from the back door and it looked ugly. So we took it out and it opened up our entire yard.

The Front yard flowers

We ripped everything out with this handy little tiller my dad gave to us and we re-planted two of the flower gardens. Dave did a great job picking out the flowers and planting them, with my little bit of help as a pregnant lady.

The Hot Tub

Our house came with a hot tub. At first Dave was so excited, I was not because I didn't want to pay to heat the water. After a few discussions about heating it and paying for it Dave realized he didn't want to use a hot tub owned by a gay guy :) So we put it on the KSL classifieds and gave it away for free if they someone would haul it away. We got lots of calls and finally got rid of it. We were so happy to see it gone!

The Shed

Along with the hot tub there was this very low built shed. When we looked through the backyard when the owners were packing up there was actually a car in this shed. I told Dave that if the car was still there when we moved in we would be making a call in to the owners. Luckily it was gone when we moved in but this ugly shed had to go. We also put this on the KSL classifieds for free to see if anyone would haul the wood away. We got calls immediately and a nice lady called and said she wanted to make lawn decorations out of the red wood and that the wood was hard to find. They came and tore it apart and hauled it all away!! Hooray, having this shed gone opened up our yard so much.

The Basketball Hoop and mailbox

So along with the hot tub and the ugly shed there was also a basketball hoop and a mailbox in our backyard.   Don't ask us why there was a mailbox in one of the flower beds. Dave says it was from Hogwarts and he was waiting for his mail from Hedwig. :) So we took both down and it looks amazing now that they are gone.

The front yard pine tree

Dave didn't like the front yard pine tree and wanted it gone before winter so he started out by cutting the lower branches to at least give our neighbors access to the sidewalk. He did a great job.

 Then we decided we just wanted it all cute down and hired one of dave's parents neighbors to cut it down for us, he did a great job and we are happy to be rid of the pine needles and have our front yard more open.

 Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the huge dumpster that we had dropped off by the city and also the after picture of just the stump. So stayed tuned for the spring when we finish our front and back yard. (A big thanks to my parents who came at the drop of the hat when we asked them to, we could not have done all of this without their help. They would constantly amaze Dave at how much they could get done in only a few hours, THANKS MOM AND DAD!!)
